“When you realize it’s not personal, there is no longer a compulsion to react as if it were. By not reacting to the ego, you will often be able to bring out the sanity in others, which is the unconditioned consciousness as opposed to the conditioned. At times you may have to take practical steps to protect yourself from deeply unconscious people. This you can do without making them into enemies. Your greatest protection, however, is being Conscious” – Eckhart Tolle
I used to be deeply unconscious. I was living my life based a on set of rules and conditions that had been programmed into me during the course of my life without me being aware of it. My unique program was an outcome of my ancestral DNA, my family, my community, my traumas, the education system, and it was necessary for me to survive my childhood. But, by definition of being unconscious I had no idea that I was unconscious, and by definition of being deeply unconscious, I thought I was highly conscious. It is a very dangerous mental disorder that a significant part of humanity suffers from. Unfortunately, this disorder is rewarded by money, power and fame in our society. Hence, our society is very ill.
By the grace of suffering, I found my way back to sanity and with a gift. The gift is that I understand and recognize unconsciousness in myself and others more readily. I understand that people (me included) think about themselves 95%-100% of the time and whatever is going with them rarely has anything to do with me.
This is simply how we are programmed for survival. The ego’s prime directive is survival and to do so, it evaluates everything as a possible threat in relation to one’s self.
To bring out the sanity in others, the hardest thing to do is to not react and let it unfold. It is the opposite of what we are conditioned to do. But when we don’t react, we find the pause that allows us to try and understand the unique perspective of the other person. What is the fear? What is the limiting belief? What is the wound? What is the pain?
All attacks are a call for love. How do we respond?
Forgive them for they know not what they do.
Fear cannot exist in the presence of love. Forgiveness is the path to love. The Universe graces us with opportunities to forgive.
We are here to be Love. Now and Forever.
